Kediri, Indonesia, Warganet – A total of 53 couples officially tied the knot in a one-of-a-kind mass wedding ceremony held on Station Street in Kediri, East Java, on Friday (July 24, 2026). Instead of a traditional wedding venue, each couple exchanged vows inside a classic Volkswagen (VW) Kombi, setting a Museum Rekor Dunia Indonesia (MURI) record for the largest mass wedding held inside VW Kombis.
According to the official website of the Kediri City Government, the ceremony was witnessed by Kediri Mayor Vinanda Prameswati and Deputy Mayor Qowimuddin. The event was part of the city’s 1,147th Anniversary celebrations and the 53rd National Jamboree of the Volkswagen Indonesia Association (VIA), hosted in Kediri.
Mayor Vinanda Prameswati said the event reflected strong collaboration between the city government and the Volkswagen community, combining public service, creativity, culture, and tourism in a memorable celebration.
“Today’s event is part of Kediri City’s anniversary celebration in collaboration with the VW community, which is also holding its national jamboree here. We hope this mass wedding brings meaningful benefits to the community,” she said.
Vinanda noted that Kediri has increasingly become a venue for regional and national events, generating positive impacts on tourism, small businesses, and the creative economy while strengthening the city’s reputation as an open, welcoming, and collaborative destination.
She also praised the Kediri Volkswagen Club (KVC) for successfully hosting the 53rd Volkswagen Indonesia Association National Jamboree under the theme “Kediri Joyone VW.”
“I hope the community continues to grow stronger, remain innovative, and inspire others by proving that hobby-based communities can also create meaningful social programs that benefit the public,” she added.
The mayor explained that Kediri’s anniversary is more than a celebration of the city’s age—it serves as a platform for collaboration among the government, communities, and residents. This year’s anniversary carries the theme “Cross-Generational Synergy, Flowing with Innovation, Firm in Tradition,” reflected in a series of events involving all sectors of society.
“We are proud that the 53rd Volkswagen Indonesia National Jamboree is part of this year’s celebration. Today, we witnessed synergy between the government, KVC, VIA, MURI, sponsors, and the community. The event presents an innovative wedding concept while preserving noble traditions through the marriage ceremony and traditional ‘temu manten’ procession,” Vinanda said.
She added that holding the event in the Station Street area also supports the city’s efforts to transform public spaces into vibrant destinations while reinforcing Kediri’s identity as a City Tourism (D’CITO) destination capable of driving both tourism and the local economy.
“I’m confident that witnessing dozens of couples getting married inside Volkswagen Kombis is an experience that can only be found in Kediri. Thank you to KVC and all supporting parties for providing this free mass wedding program complete with various facilities for the participants,” she concluded.
