Bandung, Warganet – Bandung City now has a new community-based tourism destination. Padaringan Leuweung Awi Cisurupan, located in the Bukit Mbah Garut area, Cisurupan Subdistrict, Cibiru District, has officially been activated as a tourism spot that combines natural beauty, culture, traditional cuisine, and local community empowerment.
Carrying the concept of environmentally friendly tourism, Padaringan Leuweung Awi Cisurupan not only offers the beauty of a preserved bamboo forest but also provides visitors with a unique experience through a traditional market concept integrated with nature.
One of its main attractions is the use of wooden coins as a transaction medium. The concept represents a connection to traditional culture while giving visitors a different experience reminiscent of the past.
The tourism area also features around 20 local micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) offering various Sundanese traditional cuisines. Visitors can also enjoy cultural performances and the natural atmosphere of the Bukit Mbah Garut area.
Bandung Mayor Muhammad Farhan said Padaringan Leuweung Awi Cisurupan represents a community initiative that focuses not only on tourism development but also on environmental preservation.
“This is a creation by the community. Therefore, it is our shared responsibility to protect every tree and preserve this area. Trees help keep Bandung cool, maintain water resources, and become a tourism attraction sought by visitors,” Farhan said during the inauguration on Sunday (August 2, 2026).
According to Farhan, the area is also designed as an educational space to encourage people to understand the importance of living in harmony with nature.
“Padaringan Leuweung Awi Cisurupan is not only a tourism destination. It is a learning space that reminds us humans are part of nature. Therefore, environmental preservation must become a culture within society,” he said.
Head of Bandung City Tourism and Culture Agency Adi Junjunan Mustafa explained that the development of the destination is part of the city’s efforts to create community-based tourism attractions.
He said sustainable tourism requires collaboration between the government, communities, organizations, academics, and business actors.
“Community tourism groups play an important role in discovering and developing tourism potential. The government then strengthens it into a sustainable destination that can provide economic benefits for local residents,” he explained.
Chairman of Cisurupan Tourism Awareness Group (Pokdarwis) Ari Irawan said Padaringan Leuweung Awi Cisurupan will continue to be developed as a space for community empowerment. The tourism activity is planned to be held regularly twice a month.
“We hope Padaringan Leuweung Awi Cisurupan can continue consistently as a place for MSME empowerment, cultural preservation, and strengthening community-based tourism,” Ari said.
Besides enjoying traditional Sundanese cuisine, visitors can watch cultural performances, experience the natural atmosphere of the bamboo forest, and visit the Mbah Garut religious site located within the area.
By combining nature, culture, and the local economy, Padaringan Leuweung Awi Cisurupan is expected to become one of Bandung’s new leading destinations that brings direct benefits to the surrounding community.
