Bandung, Warganet – A residential neighborhood in Cicadas, Bandung, has been transformed into a unique community-based tourist attraction called Haunted Village, offering visitors a horror-themed experience blended with a traditional village atmosphere. The event, running from July 31 to August 2, 2026, has become a popular destination while also boosting local small businesses.
According to the official website of the Bandung City Government, the Haunted Village is now in its third year and continues to attract growing public interest. The initiative was praised by Cibeunying Kidul Subdistrict Head Moch Edi Purwadi, who highlighted the creativity of local youth in creating an attraction that benefits both residents and micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs).
“This is an extraordinary display of creativity by our young people. Besides offering a unique form of entertainment, the event has encouraged local MSMEs to grow. We hope the Haunted Village will continue to develop in the years ahead,” he said.
The Haunted Village was first introduced in 2024. What began as a simple fundraising idea for Indonesia’s Independence Day celebrations evolved from a single haunted house into an entire horror-themed neighborhood involving residents, youth organizations, community groups, and local businesses.
Event chairman Adi explained that the organizers wanted to create something different from conventional haunted house attractions by turning the entire neighborhood into an immersive experience.
“At first, we were just looking for a way to raise funds for Independence Day activities. Since haunted houses were already common, we decided to create a Haunted Village involving the whole community. Thankfully, it has continued to grow every year—from one alley to three alleys—with more MSMEs joining the event,” he said.
Public enthusiasm has increased each year, with visitors coming not only from Bandung but also from other regions. With an entrance fee of only Rp3,000, the attraction is accessible to people of all ages while generating additional income for local residents.
Neighborhood chief Ramli expressed hope that the Haunted Village would continue to serve as a symbol of community creativity and inspire younger generations to keep developing innovative ideas.
Meanwhile, RT 05 head Aang said the event now welcomes around 400 to 500 visitors per day, creating tangible economic benefits for residents. He also revealed that the community is exploring a future collaboration with Saung Angklung Udjo to further enhance the attraction.
Driven by community spirit and creativity, the Haunted Village in Cicadas has become an example of how local innovation can transform an ordinary neighborhood into a vibrant tourist destination while strengthening the local economy.
